A Minnesota prosecutor in northeastern Minnesota has been ordered to stay away from a 17-year-old girl and her parents after the parents accused him of having an inappropriate relationship with the teen, the Associated Press reports.
A restraining order has been issued to Cook County Attorney Tim Scannell, the AP says. The parents say Scannell was a longtime family friend who told them he was in love with the girl, the AP reports.
Scannell’s name may be familiar. He was wounded in a high-profile courthouse shooting in Grand Marais in December 2011. Two people were honored as heroes just last month for helping to save Scannell after the shooting, KARE 11 reported.
Scannell was shot right after he had prosecuted a case against a man who had had a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old, MPR’s Bob Collins notes.
Collins also notes that MPR earlier this year did a story about older men pursuing teen girls in Grand Marais.
