Former Vice President Mondale made a statement that hit home with with me and should hit home with our legislators, whether Democrat, Republican or Independent.
"A spirit of compromise is necessary," said Mondale. Such a spirit has been needed since January when feuding over the $5 billion budget deficit began.
And yes, "feuding;" not "compromising" or "negotiating," unfortunately, words some in office would like us to believe are more accurate.
"We're in a place where both sides have to sit down and think freshly about how we can come out with a result that serves Minnesota," Mondale continued.
A "result that serves Minnesota": Wouldn't that be refreshing? Such a result hasn't been an obvious motivator. Our elected leaders have seemed more interested in serving their parties or the special interests that fund their campaigns.
